Want to Add a Free eMail Campaign Program?

In the readme file you’ll also see a place to link a free PhpList email campaign platform (equivalent to MailChimp, but without costing you for your mailing lists and campaigns created).  You can download and install this program here.

Want to Sell Your Ebooks through Our Channels?

If you don’t want to sell your eBooks exclusively using the Embellisher platform, then we can publish them for you using the Vearsa eBook Publishing system.  However, please be aware that each online retailer will charge a fee, and the possibility of eBook piracy goes up exponentially.  If you understand the risks involved, and you still want to publish internationally, please contact us to get an estimate of how much it costs to publish on Vearsa.  You can also get help from us if you need work done on your digital titles (covers, interactive content, formatting, etc.).

Want to Publish Paperback Titles with Your Own Imprint?

We can also help you publish paperback titles using the Createspace system.  You simply establish your account at Createspace.com, and we can help you with all the rest of the prepress services:  formatting, covers, editing, and uploading into your account.  Read the Print-on-Demand instructions in your Readme file after you pay the $40.

Authors are Becoming ePub3 Creators with the Embellisher (TM) Platform

    EMRE Publishing, LLC for authors

Authors and/or publishers who want to develop an eBook in the latest ePub3 formatting work with us daily to see their creations come to life.  In this article, you can see the nine things you need to know about using ePub3 formatting.  In these three free books, you can learn about how ePub3 works in a hands-on, practical way.

Now, what if I told you that you don’t have to be technically able to do all the tricks listed in these books?  In fact, we have developers and coders who’ve spent many thousands of hours working on projects that accomplish these feats of daring do, and unless you are a computer engineer, chances are you won’t learn the skills needed to do what you want.

That’s where EMRE Publishing can step-in and relieve the stress from you.  Although we do suggest you first become familiar with what you can and cannot do with ePub3, it is not a total necessity.  If you’re an author who wants to experiment with a new writing project that can make your work have a lot of extra “pop,” then ePub3 is right for you.  I am specifically suggesting that ePub3 will be most beneficial to authors who write in the following genres:

  • Education textbooks.
  • Self-Help and Inspirational non-fiction.
  • Historical non-fiction and Historical fiction.
  • Children’s interactive books.
  • Choose-your-own adventures and mysteries.
  • Interactive Romance and Erotica.
  • Adventure non-fiction and fiction.
  • Military non-fiction and fiction.
  • All of these types of books lend themselves to incorporating the cool applications in ePub3 technology and interior design.  If you have an idea for adding this technology to your next project, in order to create a professional-looking enhanced (or, as we like to call it “embellished”) title, then contact us today.

Here’s how we’ll work with you:

  •  First, we’ll get a general idea of what your project is about and what you want to do inside the book.
  • Next, we’ll put you in touch with an experienced ePub3 developer and designer who can create the specific “look and feel” of your project.
  • After our developer gets an idea of what kind of time frame he/she would need to complete your project, we will get back to you with a cost estimate.
  • Finally, the developer will discuss your project’s workflows and how to submit the details of what you want your project to do for reader in a very linear way.  Our computer engineers are very literal minded, so they will need to know exactly what you want the page to do (thus, the “suggestion” that you first become familiar with ePub3 techniques).
  • You pay 1/2 of the cost, and the second 1/2 payment will come once you are satisfied the project is meeting your requirements.  We require a paid fee for work accomplished, based on the time spent by the engineer on your project, should you wish to terminate the project.
  • If you’re interested in getting your next writing project done using the latest ePub3 formatting and technology, just ePub3 technology for authorscontact us.  We’ll discuss it with you in detail to get you enthused about what kinds of things you can do.  Your creative wheels deserve a nice “hard body” running under them, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the way we can make it happen.

And, if you happen to be a computer engineer or developer, then our Embellisher (TM) platform, for $40, should be enough to get you going!

Toffler is Dead, but Future Shock Still Exists

    Alvin-Toffler-Quotes-New-Years-Resolutions-2015-Small-Business-Tips-Internet-Marketing

If Toffler Had Lived, He Would Have Written About the Fourth Wave

After the announcement came last week that author and futurist Alvin Toffler had died, I immediately thought about another expert I knew during my years teaching at the California Institute of Technology.  Dr. Peter Drucker held many conferences for top management at Caltech’s Industrial Relations Center, and I knew him personally.  He told me to read Toffler’s book because it gave an excellent insight into what was happening in the world of technological change.  Drucker, of course, was the genius management thinker who coined the term “knowledge worker” and was very adamant about society’s need to change quickly to meet the new demands of technological progress.

In his landmark book, Future Shock, Mr. Toffler startled the world by showing how the “new literacy” would be defined by how well a human can learn, unlearn and relearn a variety of skills.  This was certainly required in a new culture that used digital technology.  Unless we can keep up with the constant changes, businesses and individuals will fall by the wayside, never to be heard from again.

I believe the next or “Fourth Wave” of technology will be turning manufacturing and publishing over to the individual.  Just imagine creating a product in your home, getting it “printed” by computer printer, and having your customers pay you directly online or through their mobile devices.  Or, as in the publishing game (my business), imagine the individual creating his or her own publication that can be instantly marketed, sold, and read by mobile subscribers that can be constantly updated as to your next big project or book right through their mobile device.

In other words, the Fourth Wave of technology is creating the liberated business person, who can go it alone, and reap most of the profits alone.  Certainly, the big conglomerates will be screaming holy hell, but what the hell?  The technology is already in place, and it will only take the “newly intelligent” to take advantage of this development.  It’s already happening, by the way.  Self-employed businesses are the fastest growing industries in the world.

For example, here’s my pitch to a person who has an inspiration story he wanted to publish to brick-and-mortar bookstores.  You can hear how I explained to him that because of the changes in technology his best bet would be to publish and market via mobile device:

Thanks for your inquiry about publishing options at EMRE Publishing.

We are somewhat of an unconventional publisher, in that we turn the money-making options over to the author to reap the greatest profits from his/her title. As you may or may not be aware, the publishing industry is changing drastically. Self-publishers, like yourself, have been able to achieve brisk sales through outfits like Lulu and Smashwords. However, we take your publishing abilities one step further by allowing you to sell directly to your audience and establish a following that will brand you on their mobile devices as an inspirational author.

Social marketing is the new method of marketing that we use, and with our Embellisher (TM) Mobile Publishing and Marketing platform, you’ll be able to sell your title(s) in more formats (print, conventional eBook, and ePub3 multimedia). I believe it would be to your best profit-making benefit to leverage all the print possibilities and market these through a single platform. Why? Well, you collect 97% of the list price, and it goes directly into your bank account. We use the Stripe purchase system that’s built right into our platform. With Lulu, they probably took a slice of your percentage (usually around 30%).

In addition, you don’t have control over the users who inquire about your book(s). In our Embellisher (TM) platform, you control the complete back-end or Admin side of things, which means you determine the price, you decide when and how you want to market, and you gain followers that can be marketed to again and again for any future titles (or online educational courses) you may have. Our direct social marketing method is the safest way for you to sell your books (especially your eBooks) because of the over three billion dollars a year that publishers are losing to eBook piracy.

As a former Caltech professor, and author, I wanted to be able to sell directly to my readers without getting ripped-off by pirates. That’s how and why the Embellisher (TM) platform was born. Frankly, getting your book into brick-and-mortar stores is a political process these days. You need to be with a publisher who’s willing to pay a lot of money just to get your book on the shelf, and to get it featured means you have to pay even more. Why not collect your profits directly from your reader and keep them with you for life? Especially with a heart-warming story like you have, people will want to have an app they can install that features you, and whenever they want to see what you’re up to, they just have to click on your app on their desktop in whichever mobile device they happen to have at hand.

Dr. Drucker and Alvin Toffler would be very gratified to see how technology is continuing to cause “tidal waves of change” in the business community.  We hope you can ride that wave to both profit and better communications.

Amazon Keeps Selling New Kindles Despite Change of Readers’ Habits

Are the Clouds Darkening over Amazon?

    darkclouds

Amazon recently unloaded a new version of their Kindle to the perhaps “less than eager” reading public.  With publishers losing over 3 billion dollars a year to eBook piracy, mostly due to the insecure Digital Rights Management of Amazon’s and other eBook retailer’s platforms, it makes you wonder how long publishers will keep selling their digital and print books through the giant online retailers.  But, most importantly, the reading public is changing their reading habits.  Each day, more and more readers are using whichever mobile device they have with them, so it makes having “extra” devices like the Kindle superfluous.

We at EMRE Publishing, LLC, believe the next generation of publisher and reader will be using mobile platforms to both create and consume all kinds of new eBooks, including the ePub3 formatted multimedia types and soon, the Virtual Reality books and games that will be coming down the pipe.  Why?  Mostly because of money, of course.  Publishers and consumers are getting tired of getting ripped-off while selling their eBooks and while reading their eBooks.  Let me break it down for you, lest you be unaware of the revolution taking place technologically.

    • Publishers have to pay Amazon to distribute their titles, but piracy and the 30% (minimum) fee charged by Amazon keeps eating into the profits of these publishers.
    • Consumers have to pay Amazon for the “privilege” of getting premium services like an “all you can read buffet” and free home delivery.
    • The so-called “direct communications with readers” is becoming less than adequate because of the large numbers of authors and readers involved, and the insistence of Amazon to not allow eBook giveaways on their Goodreads.com website.
    • The double-payments readers have to make when they buy or upgrade (see the new Oasis Kindle above) their Kindle eReader.  In addition, the inflexible (think proprietary) nature of their eReader software prevents .ePub3 titles from using all that they are truly capable of using.  For example, all Kindles cannot utilize any interactive or JavaScript interactive programming inside an eBook the way our Embellisher (TM) platform does.   Therefore, eBooks that have interactive content (think academic textbooks) cannot be used properly inside a Kindle.

Why the Revolution is Happening Now

Tarzan FrontIn summary, here’s why publishers and their reading public are switching to using mobile devices to publish and read in the coming generation:

    • Using an open-source publishing and reading app (like our Embellisher (TM), a publisher can create, market and communicate more directly with each niche consumer/reader.
    • Using our eReader platform, piracy is reduced to almost nothing, and we are now working on even creating an encryption system that will reduce any possible copying even more.
    • Keeping the reader in a single application allows the publisher to charge less for each title sold, and so nothing needs to be paid to a middleman distributor (like Amazon) if the publisher plays his cards right.  Marketing money can be better spent on directly reaching potential and current readers on their mobile devices rather than through the unwieldy algorithms and proprietary software of the Amazon Kindle (or the Apple, or the Nook, etc.).
    • A publisher in the next generation will literally be able to create, market, sell, collect and communicate directly with the reader using mobile technology, completely bypassing the rip-off experience of the Amazons of the world.

Please visit us at our Kiosk 872A at the coming Book Expo America, May 11-13, 2016, in Chicago.  We’ll put our mouth where your money is so you can save more.

Publishers Lose Three Billion Dollars a Year from eBook Piracy

    authors-against-ebook-piracy

The first question our publisher client from Israel had for us was whether or not our mobile sales platform, Embellisher™, protected his publishers’ eBooks from piracy.  In other words, was the Digital Rights Management (DRM) any good?  This was an interesting question because this publisher was one of the largest eBook sellers in Israel, and he explained that his country has never had to contend with the Amazons of the world.

“I created my own sales channels for my publishers because I had to.  We never had Amazon or Kindle, so we have always had to sell our eBooks directly to our customers.”  He was also well aware of the piracy problem in America.  Since he didn’t relish “giving away” at least 30% to a middleman (Amazon) and, to add insult to injury, lose even more money through piracy and other kinds of theft, he was really happy that our mobile sales platform had a system that was almost impossible to hack into.

In addition, we were able to work with him to be certain our ePub Creator Studio worked properly with the Hebrew language.  Our platform was developed specifically using open source (our basic platform was programmed using the open source Readium project).  In fact, he first read about our platform at Readium.org, and he was intrigued.

Now that we are breaking out into the wider market of the United States and Canada, we want to emphasize that all of your creation and sales should be kept inside your Embellisher™ app platform.  Why?  Here are five of the most important reasons:

  • You don’t have to pay these middlemen to have your eBooks sold.
  • Your DRM is one of the most secure you can get as long as you don’t sell outside our platform.
  • You can market directly to your readers through our mobile app, and you can also build your mailing lists categorized according to the author and genre inside the app.
  •  When you sell all your eBooks by mobile device, you can also open up your options to use our education platform in order to market courses based on your eBook content.
  • You must always remember that when you decide to sell through the less-secure portals like Amazon and all the others, you are opening yourself up to piracy.  We believe the rifle B2C business model will work the best for independents and self-publishers in the world of mobile reading.
  • B2C Publishing is the Business Model for the Next Mobile Generation

    Best-SciFi-Books

With the advent of mobile devices, the playing field for authors and publishers is rapidly changing.  One of the most inspirational and profitable means of doing business with this new generation of buyers is through mobile application.  We all know the phrase “I’ve got an app for that.”  It’s probably one of the most popular aphorisms in the high tech community.  Now it’s coming to publishing with the success of mobile applications for publishers and authors.  In point of fact, the future business model will be to provide the customer with what they want instantly. Just like “flash travel,” our mobile publishing platform was developed specifically to sell directly to your customer, what is now known as “B2C” marketing.

The innovative aspect of B2C is that both push and pull marketing strategies can be used with a platform like the Embellisher™ Mobile Publishing and Marketing system.  As we in publishing have seen, the big publishing giants have used B2C to fight back against the $107 billion sales power of Amazon.  The whole ball game in the future, as has been seen by the popularity of sites like Wattpad, is how mobile the publisher can become for the customer.  In other words, the next generation of readers will want much more than what the present book publishing system is providing.  I want to give the reasons why our kind of system will pay dividends for those publishers and authors who want to put their investment dollars into a platform that will harness the power of mobile in the near future.

  • Apps and digital content are merging to give the reader a “private screening room” for branded publishers.
  • Quality publishing apps like the Embellisher™ will allow the author to promote additional products related to his/her expertise.  In other words, I often tell my clients to use their eBooks as a way to “hook” the potential reader (offering it for free is one example).  If you’re an expert who gives seminars or consulting work, then this could be eventual product and revenue streams you would want to maximize inside your app down the road.
  • Because most purchases online are made through the customer’s mobile device, having your own store built right inside your publishing app, the way it is in the Embellisher™, gives you much higher ROI and potential influence over your audience.
  • Branding through app allows you to establish a community of learners as well as a community of sharing human beings interested in whatever expertise or subject matter you have to bring to the table.  Many people are becoming more micro-managers with their lives.  Having an app for their specific reading needs is one more nail in the coffin of the old-fashioned way of doing business online.
  • Most of our clients enjoy this new community-based model of publishing their content.  The main difference is that they are able to choose the community they want to establish, whereas in the former business model, people like Amazon and the big publishers were the ones who established the types of communities and what they would discuss.  Of course, some businesses are establishing a community-based publishing model to make money, but we don’t believe this is ultimately in the best interests of the authors.

We believe that once our clients pay for the technology and tools they need, it should be their decision to choose how they want to publish and create a business model based on the book or course they’re selling to the public.  In fact, this is the main reason why there’s such a revolt happening across the world against the giant corporations.  People realize that having the right technology is the key to their individual freedom as entrepreneurs, and they are utilizing this leverage to establish brands of their own.

We like to discuss this new power you can have with each client separately.  We explain what our tools can do for you, but you decide how you can use them.  Please join us in discussions about improving our present model at our open forum.  We welcome your input and your business!

Mobile Myths that Contribute to the Misunderstanding of Internet Marketing Strategies

    Five Myths about Mobile

    myth

Today, the majority of Internet purchases by consumers is made through their mobile devices.  However, many businesses confuse having their website converted for mobile access with having an application developed to sell products to the mobile consumer.  I wanted to touch on the five major myths about using online mobile websites to convert customers versus having your products sold through careful planning on a mobile application.

Myth 1:  Mobile Websites are Less Expensive and More Productive than Mobile Apps.

It is very true that a business spends much less making a website “mobile friendly.”  However, there is one major difference that must be taken into consideration.  With a tailored application, a business has the ability to directly communicate with customers and “push” an entire campaign to the consumer via the web app.  This cannot be done on a website.

Myth 2:  The Cost of a Mobile App is too Great versus the Business ROI

It is true that a business that has an entire mobile application developed from scratch can pay hundreds of thousands of dollars.  However, in this age of specialization, many companies, such as my own, are doing the “heavy development” first and then charging the business much less for a tailored app.  Therefore, in effect, it takes a business much less time to recoup the investment and get into the black.

Myth 3:  A Mobile Website Works on All Devices and Doesn’t Need to be Submitted to App Stores

The fact is that many so-called “mobile friendly” websites have problems with access by mobile devices and even with access by different web browsers.  Here’s a site that publishes mistakes made by developers of mobile websites.  On the other hand, if a business has a website developed properly and tailors a specialized application for direct sales to consumers and clients, then the best of both worlds can be had.  This is especially true if the app comes at a reduced price, such as the EMRE Publishing Embellisher™ Mobile Creation, Publication and Marketing App.

Myth 4:  Consumers Feel “Trapped” inside a Mobile App

I wrote a blog about this topic, as I believe it was a problem five years ago.  Today, however, apps are seen as a way to access the best deals.  As long as the business plans its app campaign with the best deals in mind for the consumer, then there should be no problem with the user feeling trapped inside a sales gimmick machine.

Myth 5:  More Sales are made in the Store, so why have a Mobile Presence?

Another misnomer, as the fact is that 75% of in-store customers are now using their mobile devices to check prices.  Also, as apps can notify the consumer about the latest deals, having both a mobile website and application can be the best way to cover all the business bases.

To conclude, a progressive business should allow for all methods of communications and marketing to take place.  Developing the website presence for mobile devices, together with a thrifty application from which your customers can get the most value, will make your brand stand-out from the competition and provide your clientele with the latest communications possible.
