Authors and/or publishers who want to develop an eBook in the latest ePub3 formatting work with us daily to see their creations come to life. In this article, you can see the nine things you need to know about using ePub3 formatting. In these three free books, you can learn about how ePub3 works in a hands-on, practical way.
Now, what if I told you that you don’t have to be technically able to do all the tricks listed in these books? In fact, we have developers and coders who’ve spent many thousands of hours working on projects that accomplish these feats of daring do, and unless you are a computer engineer, chances are you won’t learn the skills needed to do what you want.
That’s where EMRE Publishing can step-in and relieve the stress from you. Although we do suggest you first become familiar with what you can and cannot do with ePub3, it is not a total necessity. If you’re an author who wants to experiment with a new writing project that can make your work have a lot of extra “pop,” then ePub3 is right for you. I am specifically suggesting that ePub3 will be most beneficial to authors who write in the following genres:
Self-Help and Inspirational non-fiction.
Historical non-fiction and Historical fiction.
Children’s interactive books.
Choose-your-own adventures and mysteries.
Interactive Romance and Erotica.
Adventure non-fiction and fiction.
Military non-fiction and fiction.
All of these types of books lend themselves to incorporating the cool applications in ePub3 technology and interior design. If you have an idea for adding this technology to your next project, in order to create a professional-looking enhanced (or, as we like to call it “embellished”) title, then contact us today.
Here’s how we’ll work with you:
First, we’ll get a general idea of what your project is about and what you want to do inside the book.
Next, we’ll put you in touch with an experienced ePub3 developer and designer who can create the specific “look and feel” of your project.
After our developer gets an idea of what kind of time frame he/she would need to complete your project, we will get back to you with a cost estimate.
Finally, the developer will discuss your project’s workflows and how to submit the details of what you want your project to do for reader in a very linear way. Our computer engineers are very literal minded, so they will need to know exactly what you want the page to do (thus, the “suggestion” that you first become familiar with ePub3 techniques).
You pay 1/2 of the cost, and the second 1/2 payment will come once you are satisfied the project is meeting your requirements. We require a paid fee for work accomplished, based on the time spent by the engineer on your project, should you wish to terminate the project.
If you’re interested in getting your next writing project done using the latest ePub3 formatting and technology, just contact us. We’ll discuss it with you in detail to get you enthused about what kinds of things you can do. Your creative wheels deserve a nice “hard body” running under them, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the way we can make it happen.
Only the Open Source EMRE Publishing Platform Allows for Seamless Integration of VR
After speaking with my lead developer, Bas Van Stein, we will be doing a webinar on the addition of Virtual Reality programming in our ePub3 Creator Studio. The positive implications for publishers and educators in the private and public sectors are obvious. Whether our clients develop materials on their own or hire us to create these eBooks for them, the amazing possibilities are there for both publishing and training/education.
We Will Be Presenting our System at a Webinar for the USDLA and OLC
We will be rolling out the possibilities for utilizing VR technology inside ePub3 eBooks at a webinar through the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA), of which we are a member, and the Online Learning Consortium (OLC), as a co-sponsor. Please contact us if you’d like to attend these webinars, and we’ll forward information to you.
Award-winning author, Jim Musgrave, will be appearing at the Upstart Crow Bookstore in Seaport Village on Sunday, October 2, 2016, from 2:30 to 4:30 PM to pitch the novel and sign copies for readers.
EMRE Publishing, LLC has announced the first short mystery in a series that is completely “novel” in design and purpose. SERENE is the first mystery in the “Dr. Rachel E. Color-Me-A-Mystery Series.” Author and publisher, Jim Musgrave, was intrigued by the popularity of adult coloring books at the Book Expo America, 2016, in Chicago. As a result, he decided to design the first-ever adult Mystery series that will also include meditative illustrations to color inside. With a paperback format of 8.5″ x 11″, the reader will be able to easily color these 8 illustrations while reading the provocative new mystery by an award-winning author of the Detective Pat O’Malley Mystery Series.
“In fact, even the cover illustration (see above) can be colored,” said Musgrave. “In addition, the subject of my mystery deals with the Jewish Kaballah, so the meditative and supernatural are combined with well researched SciFi and international intrigue to create quite an intelligent read,” he pointed out.
The eBook version will also allow the reader to print-out the coloring illustrations. As far as we’ve researched, this is the first publishing venture to combine adult genre fiction with coloring illustrations. The publisher also will be keeping all of the mysteries in this series at 40 to 45K word range. The entire mystery can be read in a single sitting.
This is the mystery that establishes Dr. Rachel Edelstein as a sleuth with a super-power. Raised on an ashram in California, she is molested by Guru Bhagwan Sharma, but he pays for her college education after her parents are found dead inside a lab working on a secret experiment called “Serene.”
While working as a psychiatrist in the Israeli Army, she treats two IDF soldiers who had also been members of the Omshanti ashram back home. When they are murdered in a strangely anti-Semitic way, and no DNA evidence can be found, she decides to resign her commission and return to California to try to solve the murders.
After she teams up with another Jewish psychiatrist, Dr. Jacob Stein, who attends the same Kaballah study group, she is recruited by a scientist who worked with her parents on Serene. Dr. Joshua Lawrence implants the beta test device in her brain, but instead of allowing her to control her own libido, she is able to see the sex traumas of others, in virtual movies that are displayed when they are five feet away or closer to her.
When the third victim, also a Jewish veteran, is murdered, Dr. Rachel E. is able to find clues using her new psychic power from the Serene implant. The new clues lead to Dr. Lawrence, but when he is murdered, the case takes a strange twist. Evidence points to the development of The Singularity, a device that allows computers to evolve much faster than human brains, which can lead to a way to control people and entire societies through weapons, androids, and implant technology.
In an exciting climax, Rachel and Jacob must track down a mysterious company that is trying to sell their new technology to the Israeli Government. Not only do they believe this company is behind the murders, but they have also connected this group to an international race to establish The Singularity and perhaps become the world’s most powerful terrorist network. This first mystery in the “Dr. Rachel E. Color-Me-a-Mystery Series” introduces you to a woman with a special analytical power that can help her solve many more cases to come.

Any enterprising person can critically think about how to publish a best-selling book and come up with some very basic premises about how it should be done:
The content of the book should be interesting to the specific audience. Let’s face it, unless you write Gone with the Wind, you’re not going to be popular with all audiences. Therefore, you should narrow your audience down to those who will be interested in your subject matter. For example, if I write a book about investing in stock, then I must get an audience that appreciates how stocks are bought and sold and who have the money to gamble.
Since publishers are losing over three billion dollars to online pirates who steal content, I would want to sell my eBooks in a secure environment. Although every eBook can be hacked, there are ways to reduce the numbers of hackers who would want to take the time and perform the exercise. Just as a burglar usually doesn’t try to break into a locked home, so too does a hacker look for the easiest eBook he/she can exploit.
Even if you have content that is going to sell a million copies, the real money is made when you are able to build an audience that will diligently follow your series of books on whatever subject. Guys like James Patterson and Hugh Howey (fiction authors from the commercial and indie sides of the business), have proven this can be done.
You want to have the tools to create, publish and market your eBooks so they stay in front of the audience for whom you have written. Most people can Google the topic of eBook publication, and come up with great resources.
The missing factor in this scenario, as in most publishing efforts, is how much marketing expense, and how often do you need to spend that money to get your name and publications out there? Do you want to shotgun your money to the major media? Probably not, as it would defeat the very premise of having a limited or niche audience. Do you want to use standard TV and print advertising? Again, probably not, as you also are aware that people who read eBooks exist online and are digital fanatics.
Therefore, what if I told you that the best way to reach and keep your niche audience is to develop your eBook, market your eBook and sell your eBook, right from the same application platform? My business was to create such a platform and my Embellisher™ is rolling out to the general publishing public at the May 11-13, 2016 Book Expo America. As an independent author, who has won awards for his fiction, I wanted fellow authors to receive the best application to make money from their hard work. I knew it wasn’t through Amazon or the fact that middlemen in the publishing world are presently reaping at least a 30% share of your book’s price just for placing it up on an international platform to be sold at the behest of increasingly confusing and uninteresting algorithmic roll of the dice. I wanted my clients to be able to sell their books directly to their readers (what’s known as “business-to-consumer” or B2C model). When I was the Management Development Supervisor at Caltech in Pasadena, I taught my students that the concept of Occam’s Razor was the best way to do business. The fewer people you have to pay who are between you and your customer, the more money you will deposit into your bank account. This holds true for selling eBooks, and I hope you can take a look at our website and see why I believe our method is a method with which you will want to spend time developing your next best-seller(s).
Amazon recently unloaded a new version of their Kindle to the perhaps “less than eager” reading public. With publishers losing over 3 billion dollars a year to eBook piracy, mostly due to the insecure Digital Rights Management of Amazon’s and other eBook retailer’s platforms, it makes you wonder how long publishers will keep selling their digital and print books through the giant online retailers. But, most importantly, the reading public is changing their reading habits. Each day, more and more readers are using whichever mobile device they have with them, so it makes having “extra” devices like the Kindle superfluous.
We at EMRE Publishing, LLC, believe the next generation of publisher and reader will be using mobile platforms to both create and consume all kinds of new eBooks, including the ePub3 formatted multimedia types and soon, the Virtual Reality books and games that will be coming down the pipe. Why? Mostly because of money, of course. Publishers and consumers are getting tired of getting ripped-off while selling their eBooks and while reading their eBooks. Let me break it down for you, lest you be unaware of the revolution taking place technologically.
Publishers have to pay Amazon to distribute their titles, but piracy and the 30% (minimum) fee charged by Amazon keeps eating into the profits of these publishers.
Consumers have to pay Amazon for the “privilege” of getting premium services like an “all you can read buffet” and free home delivery.
The so-called “direct communications with readers” is becoming less than adequate because of the large numbers of authors and readers involved, and the insistence of Amazon to not allow eBook giveaways on their Goodreads.com website.
Why the Revolution is Happening Now
In summary, here’s why publishers and their reading public are switching to using mobile devices to publish and read in the coming generation:
Keeping the reader in a single application allows the publisher to charge less for each title sold, and so nothing needs to be paid to a middleman distributor (like Amazon) if the publisher plays his cards right. Marketing money can be better spent on directly reaching potential and current readers on their mobile devices rather than through the unwieldy algorithms and proprietary software of the Amazon Kindle (or the Apple, or the Nook, etc.).
With the advent of mobile devices, the playing field for authors and publishers is rapidly changing. One of the most inspirational and profitable means of doing business with this new generation of buyers is through mobile application. We all know the phrase “I’ve got an app for that.” It’s probably one of the most popular aphorisms in the high tech community. Now it’s coming to publishing with the success of mobile applications for publishers and authors. In point of fact, the future business model will be to provide the customer with what they want instantly. Just like “flash travel,” our mobile publishing platform was developed specifically to sell directly to your customer, what is now known as “B2C” marketing.
The innovative aspect of B2C is that both push and pull marketing strategies can be used with a platform like the Embellisher™ Mobile Publishing and Marketing system. As we in publishing have seen, the big publishing giants have used B2C to fight back against the $107 billion sales power of Amazon. The whole ball game in the future, as has been seen by the popularity of sites like Wattpad, is how mobile the publisher can become for the customer. In other words, the next generation of readers will want much more than what the present book publishing system is providing. I want to give the reasons why our kind of system will pay dividends for those publishers and authors who want to put their investment dollars into a platform that will harness the power of mobile in the near future.
Apps and digital content are merging to give the reader a “private screening room” for branded publishers.
Quality publishing apps like the Embellisher™ will allow the author to promote additional products related to his/her expertise. In other words, I often tell my clients to use their eBooks as a way to “hook” the potential reader (offering it for free is one example). If you’re an expert who gives seminars or consulting work, then this could be eventual product and revenue streams you would want to maximize inside your app down the road.
Because most purchases online are made through the customer’s mobile device, having your own store built right inside your publishing app, the way it is in the Embellisher™, gives you much higher ROI and potential influence over your audience.
Branding through app allows you to establish a community of learners as well as a community of sharing human beings interested in whatever expertise or subject matter you have to bring to the table. Many people are becoming more micro-managers with their lives. Having an app for their specific reading needs is one more nail in the coffin of the old-fashioned way of doing business online.
Most of our clients enjoy this new community-based model of publishing their content. The main difference is that they are able to choose the community they want to establish, whereas in the former business model, people like Amazon and the big publishers were the ones who established the types of communities and what they would discuss. Of course, some businesses are establishing a community-based publishing model to make money, but we don’t believe this is ultimately in the best interests of the authors.
We believe that once our clients pay for the technology and tools they need, it should be their decision to choose how they want to publish and create a business model based on the book or course they’re selling to the public. In fact, this is the main reason why there’s such a revolt happening across the world against the giant corporations. People realize that having the right technology is the key to their individual freedom as entrepreneurs, and they are utilizing this leverage to establish brands of their own.
We like to discuss this new power you can have with each client separately. We explain what our tools can do for you, but you decide how you can use them. Please join us in discussions about improving our present model at our open forum. We welcome your input and your business!
How Mobile Publishing Can Save the Future of the Independents
When I began working with the largest eBook distributor in Israel, Yaron Goldstein, one of the first things he told me was that the Israeli publishing community had never experienced the phenomenon of Amazon and eBooks. In other words, there was no rise of the giant conglomerate to attempt the take-over of the digital reading market the way it had happened in the United States. Mr. Goldstein put it rather simply to me, however, when he said, “Why should I give 30% of my money to Amazon?” Why, indeed!
There was a lot made about the “Netflix for books” business model. Perhaps Smashwords spoke most coherently about it. Of course, they had signed a deal with Oyster, one of the outfits that offers the “all you can read buffet.” Hugh Howey, the former indie supporter came out in favor of the Amazon Kindle Unlimited experience for the reader and author. Of course, he was one of the “lucky ones” to receive a “non-exclusive” contract agreement to sell his titles through Amazon. Even the Huffington Post came out with the article to assess the overall playing field for the author in these days of “streaming content.”
Yaron and I are working together to provide a better model for authors. Our model says that mobile publishing is the only way indies can stay competitive against this tidal wave of greedy profiteers in the “land of the corporate giants.” Make no mistake. The authors are the ones losing out in the long run with the corporate business model. It’s basic economics. Karl Marx even talks about it in Das Capital. If the business person (yes, an author is also a business person) does not own the means of production, then he will always remain subservient to the overlord. What is never discussed in these articles about Safari, Oyster, Scribd, Kindle Unlimited and Playster, is the fact that they own the means of production. In other words, without the ability to create and distribute your own intellectual property, independent authors will remain patsies to the Goliaths in this world.
My company, EMRE Publishing, LLC and its product, the Embellisher™ Mobile Publishing and Marketing platform, is the David who can fight this Goliath. Our slingshot is what will give our clients the edge. Mobile distribution of books allows authors to become the controllers of their destinies. No other means of getting your books in front of readers’ eyeballs will allow you to collect 100% of the profits directly into your bank account the way our platform does. This is the main reason Yaron came on board, and this is why we’re willing to work with any independent who wants to experience the freedom of getting their “ducks in a row” in order to establish a brand that won’t be taken under by the conglomerate model of book sales looming on the horizon.
What the “big boys” won’t tell authors is the fact that, with the right technology, they can compete. Well, guess who’s telling you and giving the chance to compete? Will you become a David and fight the Goliath? Or, will you get a non-exclusive contract to sell your eBooks on Amazon’s (or any other system) business model? Fat chance. You had better already sold several million copies, dude. At least with our mobile publishing model, you stand a chance at rifling-in and reaching your audience. And, once you entertain them with multimedia, a good story and your fascinating charm, you’ll have them forever. The public understands basic economics also. Most don’t want to give away their money to a middleman (either a publisher or distributor), so why not give it to the author? Return the profit to the creator of the goods and services! What a concept. Who can’t understand that logic?
We want to make you the owner of the means of production. You can even use it on your server. Once you create, polish and market your work, you should earn the profits. That’s our business model. If you see us at the BEA in May, we’ll be the ones saying, “Me Tarzan. You Jane. Me want take you out of Amazon jungle!“
We’re gearing up for the Book Expo America, 2016 in May. That means we’ll be running some specials, and we’re also streamlining our unique platform for our new clientele. As a result, there will be three types of Embellisher™ Mobile Publishing Platform installations available to self-published authors, teachers, and large publishers/distributors of eBooks. Our clients will be able to download the complete installation and follow the directions included. They will also have the excellent technical assistance of our developer, Bas Van Stein, who will also be working with clients to “brand” the installation to the owner’s “look and feel.” Once licensed, the platform can be up and open for business in 24 hours. Here’s a brief description of the three installations that will be available for download:
One publisher and one administrator included. All others are designated as readers and cannot create or sell eBooks in the Studio/Store. Both conventional and multimedia (ePub3) books can be created, sold and downloaded. Perfect for the self-published author who wants to have a quick way to brand him/her self and have a way to publish and market directly to readers through a cross-platform mobile platform. This installs on the server of the client with assistance of our technologist.
One Administrator can oversee publishers and collect fees for use of platform. Each assigned Publisher/author can create ePub3 books, price them, and upload them into the store using Stripe payment system. This is for the self-published author or teacher who wants to team-up with authors or teachers of the same genre or subject area/discipline. The licensee can run this business and collect royalties or fees as the Administrator/Owner. This installs on the server of the client with assistance of our technologist.
Exclusive Turnkey Installation:
One Administrator can oversee publishers and collect fees for use of platform. Each assigned Publisher/author can create ePub3 books, price them, and upload them into the store using Stripe payment system. All publishers/authors/readers can upload private eBooks into the studio and eReader. This is for the self-published author or teacher with many books who wants to team-up with authors or teachers of the same genre or subject area/discipline. It is also for the large company or entrepreneur who wants to turn over marketing and eBook creation to his/her authors/publishers. The licensee can run this business and collect royalties or fees as the Administrator/Owner. This installs on the server of the client with assistance of our technologist.
The movement against what the Smashwords CEO called “a monopoly preventing free expression” has begun against Amazon. We believe our product will help publishers and enterprising authors to gain a foothold in this battle to take-back the author/reader relationship. Our platform is the only mobile platform that permits publishers to run a complete publishing business through their cell phone, iPad and tablet. No more middlemen to take 30% off the top. No more piling your books into “all you can devour” buffets like Kindle Unlimited. Our clients work hard to establish the best relationships they can with their readers and students. They expect to receive the majority of the profits as well.
