Tired of Paying Profits to Amazon and eBay?

Tired of eBook Pirates and eBay Hijinks?

For just $40, you can get a do-it-yourself installation of the Embellisher (TM) Mobile Publishing and Sales platform.  If you already know how to do basic HTML, then you can install our program on your server and sell immediately.  It must be Php-enabled, and we advise that you have unlimited storage or a cloud resource to keep your multimedia.

Here’s what you’ll get, so you can start selling right away:

  • A complete mobile sales platform that will allow you to sell directly to your customers.
  • One of the safest eBook platforms available to ensure your eBooks won’t get pirated.
  • Stripe Payment System built right into the platform (charges less than Paypal and Apple Pay).
  • A Forum component built into the platform so you can communicate with your clients in private.
  • A variety of marketing tutorials to show you how to sell to your clients using the platform features.
  • Unique publishing features so you can create ePub3 eBooks and multimedia product home pages.
  • If you need a more tailored look for your business, then we can do that also.  Just contact us to see what we can do, and we’ll give you a cost estimate.

In the meantime, why not test drive your platform for free?  If you’re satisfied, you can come back here and pay your $40 to get a one-year’s license and all the installation components you need to start selling directly to your clients.  After completing your installation, just email an invitation to your current clients, and they can join you on their mobile device and begin buying your products and eBooks immediately.  No more sharing profits with eBay and Amazon.  No more piracy of your intellectual materials.  Safe and secure selling using the Embellisher (TM) platform.  (Note:  Open the “readme” document and follow the directions.)  If you need help, we can install it for you for an additional price: [stripe name=”We Install Your Embellisher Platform” description=”Embellisher Install” amount=”2500″ billing=”true”]

Want to Add a Free eMail Campaign Program?

In the readme file you’ll also see a place to link a free PhpList email campaign platform (equivalent to MailChimp, but without costing you for your mailing lists and campaigns created).  You can download and install this program here.

Want to Sell Your Ebooks through Our Channels?

If you don’t want to sell your eBooks exclusively using the Embellisher platform, then we can publish them for you using the Vearsa eBook Publishing system.  However, please be aware that each online retailer will charge a fee, and the possibility of eBook piracy goes up exponentially.  If you understand the risks involved, and you still want to publish internationally, please contact us to get an estimate of how much it costs to publish on Vearsa.  You can also get help from us if you need work done on your digital titles (covers, interactive content, formatting, etc.).

Want to Publish Paperback Titles with Your Own Imprint?

We can also help you publish paperback titles using the Createspace system.  You simply establish your account at Createspace.com, and we can help you with all the rest of the prepress services:  formatting, covers, editing, and uploading into your account.  Read the Print-on-Demand instructions in your Readme file after you pay the $40.

Fight the Indie Wars with EMRE Publishing

New York Times and Amazon Try to Stop the Rise of Indie Authors

Although indie authors who sell eBooks are more popular than their Big Publishing counterparts, they aren’t getting the respect their successful fight should bring.  A recent move by the New York Times Book Review and Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited attempts to push indie authors back down below traditional publishing once again.  We at EMRE Publishing are fighting back on behalf of all independent authors by running a Kickstarter campaign aimed at pairing technical ePub3 developers and indie authors to create four satirical stories based on a political theme.

Donald J. Trump Love not Fight

THE HORRORS, FANTASIES AND SCIENCE FICTIONS OF LIFE IN THE TRUMP ERA

Four different ePub3 formatted satirical stories will be featured, and authors and one administrator will share in the profits of eBooks sold in the Embellisher Publishing Platform.  Supporters may also join at the reader level, allowing them to get a bird’s eye look at how each eBook will be developed as well a free copies of the final projects.  The categories include:

  • Story Category 1: The Pussy-Grabbing President
  • Story Category 2: Jared Kushner’s Big Adventure (not to be confused with Peewee Herman)
  • Story Category 3: Ivanka Trump’s Shopping Channel
  • Story Category 4: The First Lady’s War on Bullying
  • There are 29 days left as of 4/10/17, so if you want to participate and support this campaign, you can.  We hope it’s a success so that independent authors can show big publishers and the big middlemen (Amazon and NY Times) they can make it alone.

Toffler is Dead, but Future Shock Still Exists

    Alvin-Toffler-Quotes-New-Years-Resolutions-2015-Small-Business-Tips-Internet-Marketing

If Toffler Had Lived, He Would Have Written About the Fourth Wave

After the announcement came last week that author and futurist Alvin Toffler had died, I immediately thought about another expert I knew during my years teaching at the California Institute of Technology.  Dr. Peter Drucker held many conferences for top management at Caltech’s Industrial Relations Center, and I knew him personally.  He told me to read Toffler’s book because it gave an excellent insight into what was happening in the world of technological change.  Drucker, of course, was the genius management thinker who coined the term “knowledge worker” and was very adamant about society’s need to change quickly to meet the new demands of technological progress.

In his landmark book, Future Shock, Mr. Toffler startled the world by showing how the “new literacy” would be defined by how well a human can learn, unlearn and relearn a variety of skills.  This was certainly required in a new culture that used digital technology.  Unless we can keep up with the constant changes, businesses and individuals will fall by the wayside, never to be heard from again.

I believe the next or “Fourth Wave” of technology will be turning manufacturing and publishing over to the individual.  Just imagine creating a product in your home, getting it “printed” by computer printer, and having your customers pay you directly online or through their mobile devices.  Or, as in the publishing game (my business), imagine the individual creating his or her own publication that can be instantly marketed, sold, and read by mobile subscribers that can be constantly updated as to your next big project or book right through their mobile device.

In other words, the Fourth Wave of technology is creating the liberated business person, who can go it alone, and reap most of the profits alone.  Certainly, the big conglomerates will be screaming holy hell, but what the hell?  The technology is already in place, and it will only take the “newly intelligent” to take advantage of this development.  It’s already happening, by the way.  Self-employed businesses are the fastest growing industries in the world.

For example, here’s my pitch to a person who has an inspiration story he wanted to publish to brick-and-mortar bookstores.  You can hear how I explained to him that because of the changes in technology his best bet would be to publish and market via mobile device:

Thanks for your inquiry about publishing options at EMRE Publishing.

We are somewhat of an unconventional publisher, in that we turn the money-making options over to the author to reap the greatest profits from his/her title. As you may or may not be aware, the publishing industry is changing drastically. Self-publishers, like yourself, have been able to achieve brisk sales through outfits like Lulu and Smashwords. However, we take your publishing abilities one step further by allowing you to sell directly to your audience and establish a following that will brand you on their mobile devices as an inspirational author.

Social marketing is the new method of marketing that we use, and with our Embellisher (TM) Mobile Publishing and Marketing platform, you’ll be able to sell your title(s) in more formats (print, conventional eBook, and ePub3 multimedia). I believe it would be to your best profit-making benefit to leverage all the print possibilities and market these through a single platform. Why? Well, you collect 97% of the list price, and it goes directly into your bank account. We use the Stripe purchase system that’s built right into our platform. With Lulu, they probably took a slice of your percentage (usually around 30%).

In addition, you don’t have control over the users who inquire about your book(s). In our Embellisher (TM) platform, you control the complete back-end or Admin side of things, which means you determine the price, you decide when and how you want to market, and you gain followers that can be marketed to again and again for any future titles (or online educational courses) you may have. Our direct social marketing method is the safest way for you to sell your books (especially your eBooks) because of the over three billion dollars a year that publishers are losing to eBook piracy.

As a former Caltech professor, and author, I wanted to be able to sell directly to my readers without getting ripped-off by pirates. That’s how and why the Embellisher (TM) platform was born. Frankly, getting your book into brick-and-mortar stores is a political process these days. You need to be with a publisher who’s willing to pay a lot of money just to get your book on the shelf, and to get it featured means you have to pay even more. Why not collect your profits directly from your reader and keep them with you for life? Especially with a heart-warming story like you have, people will want to have an app they can install that features you, and whenever they want to see what you’re up to, they just have to click on your app on their desktop in whichever mobile device they happen to have at hand.

Dr. Drucker and Alvin Toffler would be very gratified to see how technology is continuing to cause “tidal waves of change” in the business community.  We hope you can ride that wave to both profit and better communications.

Publishers Lose Three Billion Dollars a Year from eBook Piracy

    authors-against-ebook-piracy

The first question our publisher client from Israel had for us was whether or not our mobile sales platform, Embellisher™, protected his publishers’ eBooks from piracy.  In other words, was the Digital Rights Management (DRM) any good?  This was an interesting question because this publisher was one of the largest eBook sellers in Israel, and he explained that his country has never had to contend with the Amazons of the world.

“I created my own sales channels for my publishers because I had to.  We never had Amazon or Kindle, so we have always had to sell our eBooks directly to our customers.”  He was also well aware of the piracy problem in America.  Since he didn’t relish “giving away” at least 30% to a middleman (Amazon) and, to add insult to injury, lose even more money through piracy and other kinds of theft, he was really happy that our mobile sales platform had a system that was almost impossible to hack into.

In addition, we were able to work with him to be certain our ePub Creator Studio worked properly with the Hebrew language.  Our platform was developed specifically using open source (our basic platform was programmed using the open source Readium project).  In fact, he first read about our platform at Readium.org, and he was intrigued.

Now that we are breaking out into the wider market of the United States and Canada, we want to emphasize that all of your creation and sales should be kept inside your Embellisher™ app platform.  Why?  Here are five of the most important reasons:

  • You don’t have to pay these middlemen to have your eBooks sold.
  • Your DRM is one of the most secure you can get as long as you don’t sell outside our platform.
  • You can market directly to your readers through our mobile app, and you can also build your mailing lists categorized according to the author and genre inside the app.
  •  When you sell all your eBooks by mobile device, you can also open up your options to use our education platform in order to market courses based on your eBook content.
  • You must always remember that when you decide to sell through the less-secure portals like Amazon and all the others, you are opening yourself up to piracy.  We believe the rifle B2C business model will work the best for independents and self-publishers in the world of mobile reading.
  • B2C Publishing is the Business Model for the Next Mobile Generation

    Best-SciFi-Books

With the advent of mobile devices, the playing field for authors and publishers is rapidly changing.  One of the most inspirational and profitable means of doing business with this new generation of buyers is through mobile application.  We all know the phrase “I’ve got an app for that.”  It’s probably one of the most popular aphorisms in the high tech community.  Now it’s coming to publishing with the success of mobile applications for publishers and authors.  In point of fact, the future business model will be to provide the customer with what they want instantly. Just like “flash travel,” our mobile publishing platform was developed specifically to sell directly to your customer, what is now known as “B2C” marketing.

The innovative aspect of B2C is that both push and pull marketing strategies can be used with a platform like the Embellisher™ Mobile Publishing and Marketing system.  As we in publishing have seen, the big publishing giants have used B2C to fight back against the $107 billion sales power of Amazon.  The whole ball game in the future, as has been seen by the popularity of sites like Wattpad, is how mobile the publisher can become for the customer.  In other words, the next generation of readers will want much more than what the present book publishing system is providing.  I want to give the reasons why our kind of system will pay dividends for those publishers and authors who want to put their investment dollars into a platform that will harness the power of mobile in the near future.

  • Apps and digital content are merging to give the reader a “private screening room” for branded publishers.
  • Quality publishing apps like the Embellisher™ will allow the author to promote additional products related to his/her expertise.  In other words, I often tell my clients to use their eBooks as a way to “hook” the potential reader (offering it for free is one example).  If you’re an expert who gives seminars or consulting work, then this could be eventual product and revenue streams you would want to maximize inside your app down the road.
  • Because most purchases online are made through the customer’s mobile device, having your own store built right inside your publishing app, the way it is in the Embellisher™, gives you much higher ROI and potential influence over your audience.
  • Branding through app allows you to establish a community of learners as well as a community of sharing human beings interested in whatever expertise or subject matter you have to bring to the table.  Many people are becoming more micro-managers with their lives.  Having an app for their specific reading needs is one more nail in the coffin of the old-fashioned way of doing business online.
  • Most of our clients enjoy this new community-based model of publishing their content.  The main difference is that they are able to choose the community they want to establish, whereas in the former business model, people like Amazon and the big publishers were the ones who established the types of communities and what they would discuss.  Of course, some businesses are establishing a community-based publishing model to make money, but we don’t believe this is ultimately in the best interests of the authors.

We believe that once our clients pay for the technology and tools they need, it should be their decision to choose how they want to publish and create a business model based on the book or course they’re selling to the public.  In fact, this is the main reason why there’s such a revolt happening across the world against the giant corporations.  People realize that having the right technology is the key to their individual freedom as entrepreneurs, and they are utilizing this leverage to establish brands of their own.

We like to discuss this new power you can have with each client separately.  We explain what our tools can do for you, but you decide how you can use them.  Please join us in discussions about improving our present model at our open forum.  We welcome your input and your business!

Me Tarzan, You Jane. Let’s Get These Publishers Out of the Amazon Jungles!

Mobile Publishing as Told By a Futurist

    Book Promotion, Circa 2016

I met Jane Friedman virtually through an interview she did with another publishing expert, Joanna Penn.  What attracted me to her futuristic discussion about where publishing is going was her assessment of the overall playing field for all authors and publishers.  We must do as General Dwight D. Eisenhower said was the way you become a good leader by “seeing which way the people are going and get in front of them.”

This explains a lot of so-called “mysteries” concerning what’s happening with the big players in the publishing business.  Jane speaks of the “shadow world” of publishing.  This is the world of the independents.  We march to the beat of different drummer, and many of the big publishing players aren’t paying much attention to us.  However, as Jane points out, “I think they’re saying before 2019 or something. It’s really amazing. So basically to put cheap mobile and streaming Internet at, I think, 4G speed to every person on earth through balloons and through all this other stuff.”

If the big players are going to streaming land, then you know the power paradigm will be shifting to those who can keep up with the speed required to promote and publish via mobile devices.  When I established my company a few years back, my intent was to create a completely mobile publishing platform that the author/publisher can take with him/her.  In effect, it’s a mobile-friendly way to do your business with your readers in a much more intimate and cost-conscious manner.  Thus, you have some “myths about mobile” that have been cropping up.  One of those myths says that “people are switching from reading eBooks to reading print copies of books.”  Not so.  If you take into consideration all the mobile device readers out there, the figures become astronomically in favor of the digital reader.

The final take-away from this interview was the fact that Ms. Friedman recognizes the underlying “Holy Grail” for all publishers, including independents and self-publishers.  “It’s as simple as writing a book and building up a customer list.”  We at EMRE Publishing believe that both independents and the big publishers will be looking for better platforms to accomplish this same goal.  That’s why we’re in business.

The Proof is Always in the Pudding

The Only Folks Making Money are the Book Promoters

There was an interesting “scientific” article on Indies Unlimited by Bob Hammond.  Bob used his own money to test whether various so-called “book promotion experts” were able to sell his book placed on sale for .99 cents.  I was quite interested in his results because he actually spent money to obtain the answer as to whether or not sales can increase through this kind of promotion.  I was also interested in the comments section, as most of the respondents had similar results.  The indie authors lost money.

    Mobile Publishing App

Why spend your hard-earned marketing dollars on something that doesn’t work?  In fact, the only promotion location that seems to have established any kind of good reputation with self-published authors is Bookbub.  However, most recently, even this respected venue has been “going for the gold” by loosening its quality standards to take-in more authors and their books.  Previously, they would require that the book pass their own scrutiny based on the numbers and kinds of positive reviews of the book that was requesting promotion, and they also charged quite a bit of money for said promotion.  These days, it seems, they have begun to allow for more promoters (and more profits).

    lasvegas

If one uses logic, it stands to reason that this type of promotion would be like the odds in Vegas or even the lottery.  The House makes the most money, leaving the author (sadly) with empty pockets once again.  Why?  Because the readers only purchase books from authors they know and have read before.  How do they get to know an author?  Most of them get to know an author through a recommendation from a friend or relative.  I would even guess that Amazon reviews are being scrutinized even more carefully these days because of all the controversy surrounding “phony and paid-for reviews.”

Therefore, what does the independent and self-published author do in order to bring the odds more in his or her favor?  It stands to reason that in order to get the best (and most honest) reviews, one must form a private and personally rewarding alliance with readers.  That’s why we invented the Embellisher™ Mobile Publishing App.  Here are the major reasons why promoting with our app gives you an advantage over other kinds of promotion:

  • The reader must opt-in to your private promotional venue.  In other words, they must like what they see before they decide to register.
  • You are in control of the message, even if it means allowing your reader to read a free full version of one of your books.
  • The reader only deals with you, the author, and the reader also realizes you are getting the majority of the royalty and not some other middle man.
  • Since most purchases happen through a customer’s mobile device (cell phone, iPad, tablet), your reader is more inclined to buy from you on their mobile device.
  • Since our app also includes social sharing (Facebook, Twitter and eMail), as well as an entire Mobile Forum (in the paid installation of our app), your readers become part of your private “family.”
  • No Risk, Free Trial Promo

How would you like to be part of EMRE Publishing’s free, no risk promotional trial?  We will be collecting the data we get from you and whether or not your sales happen, and this data will be posted on our website for all indie authors to see.  The best part is that even though you have to do a little creative work, it will cost you nothing up-front to use our promotional tools.  We will be presenting our flagship product at the Book Expo America in Chicago on May 11, 12 and 13, and we want to show what our app can do.  You can be part of our presentation by being part of this free promotion.  We will even include your name and book title, if you give us permission to do so.
